Telescope

From the Deployment Manager Telescope tab, you can compile and download services’ telemetry data from a specific time frame, to support debugging and incident reviews. You can define a list of affected services, select data sources (such as logs or statistics), specify a time frame (up to a six-hour window), then download the telemetry data as a ZIP file.

Prerequisites

Telescope uses your Instabase instance’s observability tools as a source for gathering logs and statistics. To use Telescope’s telemetry data export features, your Instabase instance must support the log aggregation and statistics tooling outlined in the Instabase observability documentation.

Downloading telemetry data

To download telemetry data:

  1. Open the Deployment Manager Telescope tab (All apps > Deployment Manager > Observability > Telescope).

  2. Enter a custom label in the Label field, or use the randomly-generated default label.

  3. Select the data sources of interest from the Data sources dropdown. You can select multiple sources to include in the telemetry data.

  4. Select services from the Services dropdown. You can select multiple services to include in the telemetry data.

    Note

You can type a service’s name in the Services field to filter the dropdown results. To remove a selected service, click its name in the Services field.

  5. Enter a start date and time.

    Note

Use 24-hour time when entering a time. Dates and times are in your local time zone, as defined in your browser.

  6. Enter an end date and time. The maximum interval between the start and end time is six hours.

  7. Click Generate bundle.

  8. Click Download. Your telemetry data bundle downloads as a ZIP file named telescope.zip.
