About flows

An Instabase flow, short for workflow, stitches together the steps that make up an Instabase solution, from digitizing documents to extracting and validating data.

The Instabase Marketplace offers many pre-built flows in the form of solution accelerators that address particular use cases. If the documents you’re processing match an existing Marketplace solution, you might be able to skip or fast-track flow development by basing your solution on a Marketplace offering.

You create flows in the Flow app. Running a flow generates a job. The Flow Dashboard app displays in-progress and completed flow jobs, which you can use to monitor and troubleshoot test runs. Flow jobs that fail validation are queued for human review in the Flow Review app.

If required for your solution, flow development is typically handled by a solution developer. See the Solution Builder guide for information about creating a basic flow. In production, flows are often handed off to a solution manager and human reviewers, all working primarily in Flow Review.

When you’re satisfied that your flow performs well, you can export it for use in a production environment and integrate it with other business processes and apps, such as automatically intaking documents for processing, and automatically outputting extracted data to other systems.

Flow V2 vs V3

The current version of Flow, V3, provides a visual editor as well as the ability to branch and combine document streams, and work with UDFs.

You can use V2 flows in the current version of Instabase, but for the best experience, convert your flow to V3. For a guide to working with legacy Flow, see the Flow V2 guide.
