Does Google Docs have an AI integration?

Google introduced a generative AI feature in 2023 that uses Gemini, Google’s generative AI model, to make writing documents faster and easier. Currently, this integration is only available to Google Workspace Labs users. While not as powerful as ChatGPT, it can help draft a variety of text such as an email or blog post — just expect that the text will need your finishing touches before sending or publishing.

Although Google’s AI integration is convenient for frequent users of Google Docs, it is limited. Gemini may produce inaccuracies or opinions when you need factual information. In fact, it doesn’t guarantee accuracy and recommends users double check its responses. The integration is also geared toward text creation and not document processing tasks such as data extraction, classification, refinement, and validation.

Since only some Google users can access this built-in feature, most people need an alternative solution.

Instabase offers an alternative that expands on Google’s use case and capabilities. Instabase AI Hub is an enterprise content activation platform that provides AI-powered apps designed to help organizations get more out of their documents. Like Gemini, Instabase uses generative AI to create new content based on natural language prompts.

Within AI Hub, the Converse app lets you “converse” with your documents. After uploading one or more documents to Converse, you can use it to:

  • Summarize documents
  • Format data into tables, lists, JSON, and other formats
  • Extract information, including handwriting
  • Perform calculations
  • Translate information
  • Validate data
  • Analyze data
  • And much more

As Google continues to test its Google Docs AI integration with a limited rollout for Google Workspace Labs users, Instabase provides a proven solution that’s already trusted and used by enterprise companies. Instabase is not only highly accurate, but also provides transparency into how it generates its responses. You can see its decision-making step by step and where it’s pulling information from in your documents, which results in higher confidence, trust, and reliability.

Additionally, Instabase can generate content based on unstructured documents. This expands on the functions that Google supports (e.g., creating and editing documents), as Instabase users can analyze data and synthesize information from large numbers of documents.

While you can always upload files from your computer or mobile phone, Instabase integrates with Google Docs in two ways:

  • Easily add Google Drive as a connected drive to Instabase so that Instabase can use the documents in your Drive and upload outputs.
  • Use the Instabase API and Google Docs API to directly connect the two.

By using Instabase AI Hub in conjunction with your Google Drive and Google Docs, you can access your most important content in the same place you’re used to while taking advantage of Instabase’s more powerful generative AI.

Try Instabase AI Hub for free and see how you can get more value out of your Google Docs.
